I also liked this article! It showed me all the first ladies of the United States of America and what they did for this country. They played more than just the presidents wives; they have handled with political influences, helped their husbands’ image and overall just maintained good role models in the eye of the public. These wives had jobs that supported themselves and family, they participated in women rights to playing a great part in their husbands’ political career. They were selfless women who contributed their time for their family and nation. Now when you think about that it’s really amazing to see women from generation to generation become more powerful and equal till this day.

"The Rise of Wives" By Gwen Parkes
I really liked this article. It made great sense and helped me have a better understanding of gender roles and what both men and women play in a relationship. Over the years gender roles have changed and will remain to change. I like the fact that we as women are growing stronger, more independent and much more educated. Our strengths shouldn’t be judged on the outside, but rather what we can accomplish on our own. Now that both men and women in the modern society are sharing both roles, they can have more and achieve more.

Do certain children's toys create social or emotional or other problems?
Let’s use Barbie for an example of a toy that causes problems for children. She has big blond hair, a fit body, and big eyes, wears make-up and even has body parts of a grown female adult. Now what is the problem here? I think you have a clue. Barbie Dolls set off the wrong meaning for children, especially for little girls. I think Barbie make girls want to grow up faster instead of wanting to enjoy the moment of just being a kid. Though Barbie isn’t the only toy that is related to this subject, the Disney princess’s dolls also set off the wrong signals for young girls. Little girls shouldn’t have to worry about the way they look. They should really love the way they are, without comparing themselves to fictional characters and toys.
Should children be required to attend school past the age of sixteen?
Children have to be required to attend school past the age of sixteen because I believe that education is the way to success. Everyone should extend their level of education and attending school until only the age of sixteen will not be as beneficial to them as attending school until the age of at least 18. Making a living as of today is difficult and without a certain level of education I don’t think many people will make it. As a child of a mother who got married young and dropped out of high school, I had to help my mother who knew little English maintain an a steady lifestyle. Going to school and learning more really makes an individual independent and successful.
Do "beauty" contests (Mr. America, Miss America, etc.) serve any purpose in society?
Little girls all over the world dream of being Miss. Universe or winning a beauty pageant. As a little girl, I knew I too dreamed of winning a beauty pageant but as I grew up my point of view changed. Will becoming Miss. U.S.A or Miss. Universe really benefit not only me but my society also? I realized that beauty pageants contained pretty girls from all over the world, who wear beautiful gowns and loads of make-up to make them look gorgeous. However how does that in anyway contribute to the world, other than showing off their sculpted bodies and beautiful faces, what is the purpose of beauty pageants anyway? Nothing really. Some may think otherwise but in my opinion beauty pageants are useless in our society today.
